Degrees of Camping

Daddy-O and I have a hard time understanding why some people say the they like to camp, but then show up with a fully loaded RV.
We go primitive all the way. Bring our own water, coolers of food, battery operated flash-lights, radio, plastic utensils and garbage bags. We have a list that was tweaked years ago. Same list every time...never forget anything and have room to pack it all.
We wouldn't even think of bringing a little TV. Campfires have their own glow.
We've camped near people who pulled in, set blocks behind their wheels, plugged in extension cords and water hoses, went back inside and we didn't see them again all weekend.
They might as well be looking into a vacation home rental. That's a fine way to go...but it's not camping.
Big difference.
I've already mentioned we purchased an air mattress. It's kind of weird that, to us, it meant the beginning of the downfall of our primitive beliefs. Silly, right? Heck, what's next - a tiny air conditioner?
Not long ago, there were whisperings of a pop-up. Idunno, maybe.
Ultimately, I'd like an RV to live in permanently when we retire. That would be slick.
Future retired travelers. That sounds good.
But for now camping means getting as close to nature as possible.

Enjoyed your post and I have to agree there are degrees of camping. I actually call what we do RVing.

I've been known to stay inside more that outside on occasion but even so, I enjoy the view out my window.

I linked to your post at RVbasics.com/news.html which is automatically sent to the members of the RVbasics Yahoo discussion group. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/rvbasics/ maybe you'll see a bump in visits.

Hi Steven (and all the RV-ers!)
Thanks for stopping by.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate you posting it to your group.
Ultimately, I don't think it matters where we go or how we get there, it only matters that we find what we're looking for. For me it's a sense of peacefulness, calmness, a centering of self...away from the world.
