Indiana State Flower: Peony!

My neighbor's peonies burst after the last rain, and she was kind enough to cut two vases full for me. They've such a great scent in the front room, especially when the A/C kicks on and helps circulate the aroma into the bedrooms. We had a strange spring early on and I think that's why her red peonies didn't blossom. (I wonder if the red ones smell as yummy as the ink?)

From 50states.com : Indiana State Flower Peony
The peony (Paeonia) was adopted as the state flower by the 1957 General Assembly (Indiana Code 1-2-7). From 1931 to 1957 the zinnia was the state flower. The peony blooms the last of May and early June in various shades of red and pink and also in white; it occurs in single and double forms. No particular variety or color was designated by the General Assembly. It is cultivated widely throughout the state and is extremely popular for decorating gravesites for Memorial Day.

For Mother's Day, my Dad gave me two Hens & Chicks. Haven't decided where to plant them yet.
And that was my weekend flower fix, John Boy
